Schedule a Web Accessibility Consultation

Personalized guidance for inclusive digital design at UC Merced.

Introduction

Making our digital campus accessible to everyone is a shared responsibility, but you don't have to do it alone. Whether you are managing a department website, creating course materials, or distributing campus-wide documents, we are here to help you navigate accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA) and best practices.Use the link or QR code below to schedule a one-on-one consultation. What is Offered?

These sessions are designed to move you from theory to practice. During a consultation, we can cover:

  • Siteimprove Reviews: deeply analyzing your site's quality assurance and accessibility scores.
  • Remediation Strategies: Practical steps to fix errors in UC Merced’s Content Management Systems (Drupal/WordPress).
  • Document Accessibility: Hands-on help with making PDFs, Word documents, and PowerPoints accessible before you publish.
  • Multimedia Advice: Best practices for video captioning, audio descriptions, and alt-text for complex images.

15 and 30 minute timeslots offer the opportunity to ask quick questions. 1 Hour long appointments allow us to dive into more advanced topics or cover issues that may not be familiar.

What to Expect

Consultations are collaborative working sessions, not compliance audits.

1. A Solution-Oriented Approach: We will look at specific barriers you are facing and solve them together.
2. Screen Sharing: Be ready to share your screen so we can walk through the steps in real-time.
3. Jargon-Free Guidance Technical terms will be explained clearly, ensuring you understand the "why" behind the fix.

How to Prepare

To make the most of our time together, please:

1. Identify the URL or File: Have the specific webpage, document, or Siteimprove report open and ready to review.
2. Check Your Access: Ensure you have login permissions to the website or software we will be troubleshooting.
3. Define Your Goal: Know what you want to achieve by the end of the meeting (e.g., "Fix the navigation menu" or "Make this flyer accessible").

Potential Outcomes

By the end of our consultation, you can expect:

1. Actionable Fixes: Immediate resolution of the issues discussed (where possible).
2. Knowledge Transfer: The skills to handle similar issues independently in the future.
3. Mission Confidence: Reassurance that your content is on the right track to meet UC accessibility requirements.
