UC Merced is committed to providing an accessible and welcoming environment for visitors and members of the public, and it encourages individuals with disabilities to participate in educational, cultural, athletics, and other events it hosts on its campus. Individuals with disabilities who anticipate needing accommodations or who have questions about access to programs or services can contact the Accessibility Officer.
Visitors, guests and members of the public who require disability access or accommodations for a tour should contact the Welcome Center in advance to make arrangements.
University Events
If you have a disability and wish to participate in an activity or event sponsored by the University, you can request an accommodation by contacting the event sponsor. We suggest that you give the sponsoring unit or organization as much notice as possible.
Information for Event Coordinators
If you are sponsoring an activity that is open to the public (such as a lecture series, a performance, or a social event), you are responsible for providing reasonable accommodations to participants with disabilities, including members of the public not affiliated with the University so they can fully participate in your event. Things to consider:
- All events open to the public must be held in accessible locations.
- Publicity for events should include contact information for attendees to request disability-related accommodations
- You may also want to consider putting a standard accessibility statement on all publicity regarding the event, such as the following:
"UC Merced is committed to making its programs accessible to persons with disabilities. If you need an accommodation to participate in this event because of a disability, please contact 'name of event organized' at least two weeks prior to the program with information regarding the requested accommodation."
If you have any questions or need any support with arranging accommodations for your event, please contact the Accessibility Officer.
